Furniture Defined

We often think of furniture as simply the surfaces on which we sit, lay, or work. However, upon further consideration many people might include shelving, storage cabinets, and lamps, and extend this to include electronics such as televisions and desktop computers. Our definition could expand to anything that furnishes a space. Would this broader view of furniture also include functional pieces such as pianos and large kitchen appliances, or exercise equipment?
