Martin garden
Church, who drew inspiration from the property’s beachfront site, designed the Martin garden in the late 1940s. The preliminary study for the garden, featured above, shows design elements that never made it into fruition – including a form in concrete featured in the center of the sand area very similar to the Addie Kent sculpture for Donnell pool that Church went on to design about a year later. Hervey Parke Clark designed the “u-shaped” vacation house for the Martin family, which enclosed a deck and sand area that led to the nearby beach.
