Wurster, an architect, became dean of architecture at UC Berkeley in 1950 and oversaw the founding of the CED in 1959; he retired from CED in 1963. Bauer Wurster was an authority in housing and a leader in New Deal housing policy as well as a Professor and Associate Dean in CED.
