Pasatiempo Country Club and Estates
Golfer-developer Marion Hollis conceived the Pasatiempo Country Club and Estates as a weekend retreat for the wealthy in the Santa Cruz Hills. Wurster, hired on as one of the project architects, recommended Church, who was then hired as the resident landscape architect. Church sensitively sited houses and designed several gardens. In addition to designing Church’s own house at Pasatiempo, Wurster designed many of the houses like the one featured here. Church’s work at Pasatiempo allowed him to establish his landscape practice at the onset of the Depression.
