Gregory Farmhouse
Located in the densely forested Santa Cruz Mountains, the iconic 1926 Gregory Farmhouse was designed by William Wurster. Prior to hiring Wurster, Warren and Sadie Gregory, rejected two prior schemes, one by John Galen Howard (who had designed their 1903 Berkeley home – see Maybeck, Morgan, and Howard section) and a Spanish Colonial Revival scheme initialed by Howard’s son Henry Temple Howard. During the design process, Warren died of a heart attack and Sadie took over. “The house became both a realization of Warren’s dream and the confirmation of Sadie’s resolve to rebuild her life.”
